Comedian Evan Wecksell Releases New Political Satire Song, Merch Line
The guitar jokester has released his “Radical Left Republican Dad” song and lyric video, in addition to debuting his new online storefront Funny Forever Tees.
Los Angeles, California Feb 13, 2024 (Issuewire.com) – With another polarizing election cycle culminating in November, Comedian Evan Wecksell is turning to his family to shine a comedic spotlight on the occasion.
Wecksell is following the comedy writing maxim ‘write what you know’ with his latest comedic anthem “Radical Left Republican Dad,” a paradoxical melody that may not be as confusing as it sounds.
“One thing I got out of the pandemic was how backwards everything seemed politically,” Wecksell explains. “It seemed like both sides reversed a lot of what they had traditionally stood for and that trickled down to voters like my dad.”
While Wecksell’s video includes the disclaimer “possibly inspired by an actual dad,” he did seek his dad’s permission before starting work on the song. However, towards the song’s completion, Evan’s father, a retired doctor, didn’t recall giving him clearance so further haggling was needed.
Wecksell is no stranger to politics after running for California State Senate in 2020 and penning “Recall That Man” the following year to dovetail with Governor Gavin Newsom’s Recall Election.
In this song, Wecksell invokes several politicians including President Biden and Former President Trump. More importantly, he wants audiences to know that the song is not as partisan as the title indicates.
“If anything, the song validates both sides,” clarifies Wecksell. “I feel in politics both sides need each other, so if you listen all the way through you may hear about the other parent.”
That other parent is teacher Marilyn Wecksell, who saw an advanced screening of the video. When asked for comment, she replied, “I can’t right now. I have a lot of work, and then I have to beat someone in Duolingo.”
As an added bonus to the song release, Wecksell is also launching his new online store Funny Forever Tees, featuring apparel inspired by the song and other aspects of his career.
“Band song lyrics make great shirts, so why not punchlines,” Wecksell opined. “Plus, I always held up signs like ‘Free Awkward Smiles’ to meet students when attending college programming conferences. Now I can share those quirks with everyone through the store.”
“Radical Left Republican Dad” is available on all streaming platforms while the video can be seen on Youtube, Rumble and Vimeo.
